Wayne Dyer Calls

“Mary Terhune has written the best description of self-realization I have ever read.”
-Dr. Wayne W. Dyer,  #1 New York Times best-selling author

It was July It was July 2013, midnight, and my cell phone was ringing. Normally I’m in bed by 10 p.m. with my phone shut off for the night, but for some reason, which we will call divine intervention, I was watching an inspiring video and got so caught up I forgot the time. I answered the phone, although I didn’t recognize the number of the person calling. “Hello?” “Is this Mary?” the voice asked. “Yes, this is Mary.” “Hi, this is Wayne Dyer.” Astonished, I said, “Oh, hi! How are you?”

First, I need to back up to see how we got to this point. About six days prior to the phone call, I was sitting with my co-worker Susie, talking about our lives. I told her, “I just completed a big project and feel like I’m ready to move on to the next thing in my life, the next chapter.”

Susie asked, “Well, what would you like to see happen?” “I’d like my book [which was self-published at the time] to become a bestseller because I believe in its message.”

“Then you will have to send it to someone like . . .I don’t know . . . hmm . . . Wayne Dyer.” “Really?” “Yes,” she replied. “I think his audience would be interested.”

She said this with such conviction that when I finished work, I went home, wrote a note, put it in a copy of my book, and drove to the post office, mailing the package to: Dr. Wayne Dyer, Best-selling Author, Maui, Hawaii, with a zip code I thought might work. I didn’t know his real address, but I figured this was close enough.

Fast-forward to the late-night phone call—it turns out that Dr. Dyer was very amused by the address label. He said, “You know you’ve made it when you’re sent mail addressed Best-selling Author as your street address, and it gets to you.”

Dr. Dyer invited me to come to his Divine Love seminar in Maui the following January, 2014, as a surprise guest author. Onstage he read the entire “Self-Realization” chapter of my book, which he said was not only the best description of self-realization he had ever read, but he’d also never read from someone else’s book for 20 minutes at one of his seminars!

Tears rolled down my cheeks as I heard Dr. Dyer read my experience of self-realization. His voice was filled with rich tones of deep spiritual longing and understanding, mirroring our yearning for inner freedom—the hallmark of his work. It was well received by everyone.

It was then that Dr. Dyer made the declaration that Hay House was going to publish my book. With a heart full of gratitude to Dr. Dyer and Hay House, my original book has been revised, added to, and edited. Please enjoy this updated version of Out of the Blue.
